The forest industry in British Columbia has been fluctuating for some time. With changes in ownership, mill closures, and evolving forestry practices, it is important to keep ahead of the curve to prevent massive impacts on communities through changes.

The Forestry Recovery Advisor will work with industry and partners to ensure Golden and the Columbia Valley continue having a strong and innovative forestry sector. This position is funded by ETSI-BC in partnership with the Cranbrook Chamber of Commerce and the Elk Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Contract Position

  • 30 hours/week at $40/hour
  • 10 month contract (August - May 31) 

Location

The position can be located anywhere within the Golden and Columbia Valley Region. The contractor can work from home or may have office space made available.

Travel

Travel will be required throughout Golden and the Columbia Valley

Duties & Deliverables

  • Conduct surveys of employers within forest industry to gauge current diversification efforts
  • Deliver one-on-one coaching services and provide employers with resources they need to access available funding. This includes meeting one-on-one with employers to identify which
    supports might be beneficial, printing off paperwork needed to apply for this funding or helping them through online forms and connecting employers to any additional resources they need to
    be successful.
  • Sign-post employers to other relevant supports such as Basin Business Advisors and loans through Community Futures, and retraining opportunities through Kootenay Employment
    Services
  • Send email communications and make direct phone calls to employers to ensure they are aware of the support provided through this position
  • Research: Gather information and resources for economic development and industry diversification and distribute to business owners
  • Attend in-person and virtual community events with marketing materials, brochures, pamphlets, to give to employers re: funding opportunities, community resources
  • Attend local (and where possible regional) community meetings that may provide opportunities to support employers
