Meet Jerry - our new Forestry Recovery Advisor!
I first arrived in Golden in 1979 and completed most of my elementary and secondary education here.
Since then, I’ve spent much of my life working in or adjacent to the forest industry, starting in forest fire
fighting, to forest surveying, to developing biofuel/biochar technologies, and to operating a wood pellet
business.
Over the last 15 years, I’ve been leading companies and projects to commercialize sustainable
and low carbon technologies and have had the opportunity to facilitate many aspects of corporate and
product development from start up, to financing, to sales and to listing on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
These experiences have given me a deep understanding of start-up business practises, and business
model innovation. I’ll admit it’s been quite the journey translating graduate school (UBC & SFU) and
research experiences into business development skills, but I also feel very fortunate because its allowed
me to do what I enjoy most: to build and collaborate with amazing people and to promote innovative
solutions that help us better manage our natural resources.
I’m happy to accept the Forestry Recovery Advisor position with the Kicking Horse Country
Chamber of Commerce and am looking forward to helping businesses from Golden to Invermere. My
goal is to reach out to employers within the forest industry to gauge their current challenges and to
connect them with resources and tools including skills/training, and access to grants and funding that
support industry diversification and the resilience of their businesses.
If you’d like to chat, please send
me an email at [email protected], but don’t be surprised if I reach out first.
